The end of the cold war
The outcome of the Cold War was that all the countries in Europe that were controlled by the Soviets now have democratically-elected governments. The USSR ended up collapsing due to their heightened effort to keep up with the United States' atomic weapons program, which drained a large sum of money from the country.
It took nearly 3 differend presidents to end the Cold War. The first attempt was by president Richard Nixon. He began to introduce a new approach of international relations. He suggests to use diplomacy instead of military to create more poles and began establishing relations with Beijing.
Next to the stand was president Ronald Reagan who believed that the spread of communisim threatened freedom everywhere. Reagan worked to provide anticommunist governments with financial and military aid. Reagan tried all he could to stop the Cold War although he didnt succeed, the Soviet Union began to disinigrate.
Premier Mikhail Gorbachev was the next to go into office in 1985. He introduced two new policies that redefined Russias relationship to the rest of the world, political openness and economic reform. The soviet union waned and in 1989, every other communist state in the region replaced its government with a noncommunist one. Later in 1991, the Soviets had completly fallen apart leading to the end of the Cold War.
